You’re probably unaware of the fact that chickpeas are great organic cooking ingredients when you are on a diet. Those cans of organic beans sitting in your kitchen can be used to make many delicious and healthy recipes. You can either cook them in gravy and make an amazing main course or simply toss them with some spices and enjoy a delicious evening time snack. The choice is yours!

Today, we are going to share a step by step simple yet delicious recipe i.e. Roasted Chickpeas.

First of all, what you need.


  • 2 cans of chickpeas
  • 2 tablespoons of olive oil
  • Salt to taste
  • 2 to 4 teaspoons spices or finely chopped fresh herbs, like thyme, rosemary, paprika, garam masala, cumin powder, curry powder, chili powder or any other spice you may like.
  • Finely chopped cilantro for garnish

How to cook

Step 1:

Open the chickpeas cans and take out all the chickpeas into a strainer. Rinse it under running water. Spread out chickpeas on a paper towel and pat dry. Chickpeas should appear matte and dry to the touch; if you have time, leave them aside for an hour to help them dry completely before use. 

Step 2:

Heat the oven to 400°F. Put an oven rack in the oven. Place a heavy rimmed sheet on a baking tray.

Step 3:

Check if the chickpeas are dried off completely. If so, spread the chickpeas on the baking tray and put it in the oven. Bake it for about 30 minutes while checking and stirring it after every 10 minutes. Some chickpeas may pop during baking but don’t worry that’s completely normal. When these chickpeas golden in color and are slightly darkened, they are done. Crisp and dry on the outside, and soft on the inside!

Step 4:

Once done, take out the baking try. Toss the chickpeas with all the spices. Sprinkle garam masala, salt, chili powder, cumin powder over the chickpeas and toss until evenly coated. Garnish it with finely chopped cilantro. Pour them in a large bowl and serve them hot while they are still warm and crispy.

You can even store them in an airtight container for future use.
