Organic Fenugreek Powder

Organic Fenugreek is an annual herb with light yellow flowers and three lobed, clover-like leaves, typical of the pea or Fabaceae family. Golden yellow seeds are, harvested from Eco-friendly organic farms spread across Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh states in India. As far as flavour is considered, it is energetically heating with a pungent, bitter, and sweet taste. Seeds and leaves are rich in carbohydrates, mucilaginous fiber (galactomannans), proteins (high in lysine and tryptophan), fixed oils pyridine-type alkaloids (such as trigonelline, choline, gentianine, and carpaine), flavonoids such as apigenin, luteolin, orientin, quercetin, vitexin, and isovitexin, free amino acids, such as 4-hydroxyisoleucine, arginine, histidine, and lysine; calcium and iron; saponins, glycosides (yielding steroidal sapogenins such as diosgenin, yamogenin, tigogenin, neotigogenin on hydrolysis), cholesterol and sitosterol, vitamins A, B1, C, and nicotinic acid, and volatile oils.

The seed powder smells of maple and butterscotch and in Indian cuisine is toasted in hot oil to further enhance the flavor. In southern India, it is added to fish curries, dosa batter, common spice to garnish any type of food and also used in sambar (vegetable lentil stew). Further, these ground seeds are used to add a maple flavor to food, beverages, candies, tobacco, imitation maple syrup, cosmetics and perfumes. Can be mixed with ice creams, smoothies, herbal tea, milk, functional drink formula and yogurt.

  • Organic Fenugreek Powder has a characteristic energetically heating flavour with a pungent, bitter, and sweet taste. Since seventh century B.C., fenugreek seeds have been appreciated for their medicinal and culinary properties. Refereed by several names in India - menthulu (telugu), menthiya (kannada), methi (hindi), is an iron rich, cholestrol and blood sugar reducing spice used to season vegetables, fruit and lentils in Andhra, Karnataka and Rajasthan. Due to its bitterness and heating in nature, it is used to dispel dampness and cold and to warm the kidneys. Its main effects are on the kidney, lung, and large intestine meridians. In traditional western herbalism, fenugreek seed has been used for many of the same purposes, particularly to support digestion and lactation in nursing mothers. Additionally, fenugreek is an emollient and makes a fine poultice for external use. The seed paste is applied on face and hair as a coolant and conditioner. Seeds and leaves are rich in carbohydrates, mucilaginous fiber, proteins, fixed oils pyridine-type alkaloids, flavonoids, free amino acids, calcium and iron, saponins, glycosides, sitosterol, vitamins (A, B1, C), nicotinic acid and volatile oils. Fenugreek powder is extremely easy to incorporate into your diet and enhance its delicacy. Sprinkle a few teaspoons into yogurt, juices, herbal teas, prepared foods or sauces. Mix with functional drink formulas, ready-to-eat smoothie mixes, yogurts, and ice creams. Can be added to dosa and idli mixes.
